If life gives you lemons, then ask for salt and tequila!
March 2025
This title was written on a wall (in Spanish) at one of our restaurant venues in Mexico City. I believe it highlights the positivity of the Latin culture and epitomises my experiences whenever I travel to this part of the world.
Whatever the challenges facing our profession (and indeed, global economies), the Latin America region of Russell Bedford International, in particular, stands united and together. This is arguably our network’s most collaborative region and has shown considerable growth over recent years.
This time, it was a long, exhausting but immensely productive, and very enjoyable, two-week trip around Mexico.
Our Associate Director of network engagement, Kathryn Davis and Global Board Director/Leader of the Mexican national group, Javier Jiménez Lizardi accompanied me on a tour of three of our biggest firms in the country - Guadalajara, Monterrey and Mexico City, sandwiched around a fantastic Ibero-America conference in La Paz.
Our conference was another spectacle of connectivity, generating discussions focused on best practice, specialisms, innovation and people; all of which lead to business development.
And, my visits to our three largest Mexican offices showed the strength of Russell Bedford México, and how important the country is for the Latin region and our international network.
Grateful for the comments received towards the end of the trip as to how well my Spanish continued to improve; it’s surprising how spending several days in a country can really help bring back those seldom-used talents, and being able to present, answer questions and address issues in the local language, was certainly a personal high point. In contrast, the inability to drink more than a couple of shots of tequila, and barely one of mezcal, was not something that improved!
I thank all our people who contributed to a highly successful event in La Paz along with, of course, our fabulous host Cipriano Alberto Ceseña Coria for his superb hospitality. I also thank our friends in Guadalajara, Monterrey and Mexico City for arranging such important and significant meetings, for sharing their plans and visions for continued and impressive development, and for making our visits so satisfying.
And thank you Alfonso Milla and Romina Sanabria for their invaluable assistance. It is always great spending time with you both!
To our magnificent firms in the region: Keep up the incredible work throughout Mexico and Latin America! (…whilst I practice my ‘one tequila, two tequila, three tequila, floor’.)
